new life and the beauty found deep within

each year at my wife's family reunion we have a auction to raise money to fund future reunions and a flower fund in the event that someone is in the hospital. last year i had the winning bid on two day lily's from karen's niece in iowa. one of the plants died not long after it was transplanted, but the other seemed to be ok.  as the summer has been progressing, we've been eagerly waiting on this remaining plant to show us what was stored up inside it's first bud. WOW .... this picture does not begin to adequately show the beauty that we've been blessed to witness this afternoon. karen's niece Joyce loves to raise day lily's and is especially fond of this variety. karen and i met at a local restaurant this evening for dinner. karen arrived before me and was seated talking to our waiter when i arrived. as i approached the booth i was pleased to see that the waiter was the son of friends of ours who had been involved in a head-on car accident in 2006. i remember the accident because i had actually passed the remains on the interstate only a short time after it had occured, not knowing that jay had been involved. jay had been on the way to his appartment in the wee hours of the morning after closing at a local restaurant /bar where he had been the bartender. jay had been raised in a loving Christian family but had not embraced the faith or Saviour that his parents had. i remember talking to his father at the hospital. he explained all that the doctors had told them and that jay's chances of living were very slim. they told him that if jay were to survive his mental capacity would be severely limited. jay would most likely be handicapped and would need to rely on others for the daily necessities . fast forward to today when karen and saw jay and witnessed the beauty within. jay stood before us as whole and complete as any young man could be. jay began to explain all that had transpired since that morning of his accident. i could not begin to repeat all that he told us only to say that jay's life has been transformed by the Saviour to whom his parents had prayed to for his salvation for oh so long. jay has a story to tell, and will gladly share it with all who will listen. WOW .... this picture does not begin to adequately show the beauty that we've been blessed to witness this afternoon.
